Exploring Science through Telangana’s Cheriyal paintings

The GP Birla Archaeological, Astronomical and Scientific Research Institute (GPBAASRI) in collaboration with The Foundation for Advancing Science and Technology (FAST India) organized an event titled ‘Communicating Science Through Cheriyal Art’. Mr KG Kumar, Director, GPBAASRI said, “Cheriyal art form has been traditionally used for telling stories through paintings and probably it can be considered as one of the first mobile movie. Merging these two is being done in this workshop. Artist Mr. Saikiran Verma based in Hyderabad said that for the first time, we are conducting a workshop that combines Art with Science; each participant will create a unique painting using their own concept.

Dr Bitasta Das, Instructor-Humanities at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, connected Science and the folk artsaid, “The folk arts of India are our country’s heritage. This workshop will demonstrate that Cheriyal art can be appreciated vis-à-vis science and technology.”
